Tom Hanks points Instagram warning about faux AI movies

When you see a video advert of Tom Hanks promising you a miracle treatment for one thing, the person himself needs you to know it is a faux.

On Thursday night time, the actor took to Instagram to problem a PSA about AI-generated movies popping up on social media which can be utilizing his picture.

“There are a number of advertisements over the web falsely utilizing my title, likeness, and voice selling miracles cures and surprise medicine,” reads Hanks’ put up. “These advertisements have been created with out my consent, fraudulently and thru AI.”

“I’ve nothing to do with these posts or the merchandise and coverings, or the spokespeople touting these cures,” Hanks continues. “I’ve kind 2 diabetes, and I ONLY work with my board licensed physician concerning my therapy. DO NOT BE FOOLED. DO NOT BE SWINDLED. DO NOT LOSE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY.”

This is not the primary time Hanks has issued a warning like this. Final October he shared a screenshot of an AI-generated video of himself “selling some dental plan” (for some motive Hanks seems to be a go-to for medical-themed AI hoaxes) together with a warning that he has “nothing to do with it”.

AI misinformation is already a rising problem. It appears seemingly that because the know-how turns into extra superior, widespread and accessible, the issue is just going to worsen.
